The story so far...
My name is Martin and after 15 years working in main dealer showrooms I became intent on building a car sales business of my own and so started Bassetlaw Automotive in February 2018. I have two key motives as to why I'm determined to make this a success.
- To bring professional standards of vehicle preparation and friendly, individual customer service to the affordable used car market.
- To build a business to support my family whilst spending more invaluable time with the kids.

Having worked as a General Sales Manager I knew first hand what positives I could take from the established car retailer practices such as the focus on and importance of customer satisfaction and I'm passionate about bringing that in to my own business. However, I'm aware of the bad bits too, the complications, the inflexibility & the sometimes impersonal nature - you wont find that here.
Instead you'll find a warm welcome awaiting you helped by the fact I run the business from my home here in the Bassetlaw countryside. We occupy a peaceful, rural plot surrounded by quiet, open roads which are perfect for test driving our cars.
We take care
We source the majority our stock from private sellers because knowing where a car has come from adds real value to me. A well maintained, looked after car from a good home is worth searching for and meeting the person who has kept the car gives me real confidence that it's worth buying. Unlike a lot of sales people I can tell you the backstory of our stock and of course all our cars are HPI clear.
I think first impressions really count so our preparation standards help us stand out. My expectations are born from my years overseeing vehicle preparation of main dealer stock so if an alloy is badly scuffed or there's a hole in a seat or a parcel shelf is missing we will endeavour to rectify the issue before the car is presented for sale.
The same standards apply to mechanical checks too. We personally road test the cars we buy and rely on the reputable services of Priory Garage in Mattersey to carry out any repairs, any servicing work and our MOTs.
We're here for you
Operating from our home address gives me real flexibility. That's great news for me because I can spend more time with the kids for school runs, activity classes, homework etc.
It's great news for you too because I'm not limited to opening / closing times so whenever is good for you is good for me. We've had customers here as early as 07:45 and as late as 21:30. All we ask is that you call ahead and make an appointment so that I can properly prepare the car of interest for you. This means you get to see the car is the optimum condition and you get my full, undivided attention.
We're always on hand to answer any questions whether you prefer to call for a chat, email, text or LiveChat. I understand that communication is key and having options open to you as a buyer is great. I will personally reply all of the time because I know you are central to the success of the business and the livelihood of my family.
Feedback is a measure of success
Even today there are garages out there who don't like customer reviews. That's because they don't like potential new customers hearing about how they've treated their old ones.
We love reviews! We ask every single buyer to send one in and we've had outstanding feedback. Even when things have gone wrong and cars have broken down (because that happens) people have commented on how we've responded and helped. More than half of all our customers have been kind enough to post a review and I hold our score up as a personal achievement.
